“The best form of government is monarchy … with an occasional assassination.” - Voltaire
“Anxiously we look around for collective measures, thereby reinforcing the very mass-mindedness we want to fight against. There's only one remedy for the levelling effect of all collective measures, and this is to emphasise and increase the value of the individual” - Carl Jung, Civilisation in Transition
Panocracy is a political system in which power is divided equally between all the stakeholders, a sort of political cooperative. The word is derived from the Greek words for 'all' (pan) and the people 'demos' (Those years I spent stumbling through Homer's Odyssey in the original Greek weren't wasted after all).
The purpose of this substack series is to suggest and examine an alternative to our current system of representational or parliamentary democracy. Before you throw up your hands in rabid apoplexy, this would still be democracy, only the kind where everyone has a voice.
This series is unlike the other substacks I've seen (and recommend) in that it presents proposals in order to spark critical debate and thereby refine and toughen up the ideas.
So I encourage criticism, hopefully constructive, on the central theme, which will evolve in consequence.
Not wanting to be too pedantic, Jim, but shouldn't it be "pandemocracy"?!
