“But they are only too human - with all the frailties and defects which accompany that”. Centralised, bloated bureaucracies/technocracies led by socio / psychopaths always collapse / implode, unfortunately at the cost of a great many relatively innocent and humble lives. I fear that your hopes of making a gradual improvement to the “machine” are vain. I wish I could believe they weren’t and I appreciate your efforts, but I really don’t see how we get from here to those sunlit lowlands without a catastrophic collapse of the current system. The engine is already racing and about to blow its gaskets. I fear for the future of my children and grandchildren - the only solution (for those who have the means) is to retreat to some relatively safe place and hope the deluge doesn’t reach you.

Thanks, David. Yes I too believe that we will have some kind of catastrophe. My best guess is it will be financial a la Soviet Union. My hope is that we'll be able to have something 'waiting in the wings' so that we're not immediately taken over by oligarchs, demagogues or tyrants.

If the idea of a panocracy is attractive to a sufficient number of people then there may be a chance. There needs to be a 'roadmap' of how we might get from a breakdown of society to those 'sunlit lowlands'.

There's always hope!
